Artist's Comments

I've had this character in the design table for a long time now. In fact, this character was created in 2006, so she's actually older then Leo Winters. She was originally intended as a sidekick character for my older main character, Leoshi. However, when I switched to a penguin and decided to redesign all of my characters into more original appearance, I began a quest to make her look more interesting.

Way back in the day, my origonal appearance of her looked like this: [link]

Later she would be mentioned in a story that I never finished and quite frankly want to forget I wrote. Eventually she reappeared on my comic page: [link]

But even then her design wasn't too interesting. So, I gave her some more stripes, added some different colors, and wound up with this result. The left design is how she normally appears, and the right design is how she dresses in my current SOAP comic arc: [link]

So, I really can't say ANYTHING about her without spoiling some things about Shelly.

...or maybe I can.

Basically, she's a shellfish, as well as a pirate. Specifically, she's a "look out", so she has an observant ability, which allows her to see past things that might be hard to see past. She's bold, rough, aggressive: but not unreasonable or hasty. Wielding a sword, and having a shell on her back filled with equipment, she's both capable and highly formidable.

So yeah, here's Shelly from Story of a Penguin. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. :XD:

Wow, great to see Shelly in full colour, and after looking at that older picture the improvements are ddefinitely visible.
I really like the personality you've given her, mixing up the aggressiveness of being a pirate with the sensitivity of a typical female. Nice contradiction there, plus I like female characters that break the mould of typical cartoon females.:)
Her colour scheme's nothing like I thought it would be, but it suits her very well. Her current outfit's perfect for the current storyline too. I just love the whole idea of how she can keep loads of items in her shell...you should say she's a living breathing Swiss Army knife.:XD:
Anyways, great work on her design, it's awesome to see you putting her to some memorable use. Hope to see more of this sprightly little pirate in action.:)

Oh wow, I think she's so cute! I love the way she looks, she really looks like the type to be the goofy, but loveable sidekick. The whole design of her is really just all-around Amazing! The red-hair-freckles is always such an awesome trait. :) I want to see more of her.

Ah, she is a bit like that, somewhat more tough then goofy, though she can be. She is a pretty old character, but I really haven't used her to her full potential yet, something I plan to do in my comic! Thanks! =D
